PERSON DO THING
Person Do Thing is played by taking turns to describe a “target word” (shown at the top of the screen) using only 34 basic words (like Person, Do and Thing). You will need to get creative, using the simple words in funny combinations to get your message across. You've completed a turn when the rest of your group figures out your target word.
Example: Desert
You: Big place.
Audience: Earth?
You: More no-big.
Audience: Country?
You: Like but no same. Hot and no have person.
Audience: Desert?
You: Yes, yes!
Your audience can guess any word at all, but may only ask questions using the words from the word bank.
Example
You: Big place
Audience: Big place with many person?
You: No no no. Big hot place with no person.
If you are playing PDT for the first time, please check out Beginner Mode for some easier target words and added hints.
Cooperative Play
A popular way to play PDT is for one person to describe a target word until the group has guessed it, then pass the device to the next person. The next player gets a new target word by pressing the circular refresh button next to the current target word.
Competitive Play
For competitive play, divide your group into two teams.
The first team selects one player to go first and gives that person the device.
Teams alternate with one team member each turn playing as Say-Person and describing the target word with only their teammates figuring it out, trying to get the target word within 2 minutes.
Whichever team figures out the most words correctly wins!
Additional Information
- If someone gets a variant on your target word, that’s a win. E.g. if your target is Believe and someone says Belief or Believing.
- If your group gets three synonyms of your target word, that’s a win. E.g. if your target is Handsome and your group says Beautiful, Gorgeous and Attractive.
- If the Say-Person accidentally says a word they shouldn’t, you can generally just ignore it and continue.
- Some use of gestures is allowed, but no miming.
- The Say-Thing (vocabulary) box is organized into four categories: Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, and Helpers.
- For an extra challenge, you can have the solvers only ask questions using the 34 simple words.
- The meta-rule of Person Do Thing is: if it’s funny and your group allows it, it’s allowed.
